Starting Rosters – Amazons

Overview

The Amazon team has recently had a revamp. It is still based around the concept of everybody having Dodge and terrible armour but the positional players are a lot more interesting now, and there are even a couple of players with some muscle.

The Jaguar Warrior Blockers are very interesting players. They are expensive but they add some much needed muscle to the team. Starting off with Dodge and Defensive is a huge advantage over comparable ST4 players on other teams such as Black Orc or Chaos Chosen Blockers who can only get those skills as expensive secondary skills. They really are a must have on any starting roster.

Piranha Warrior Blitzers are fast but lack the essential Block skill to make them effective blitzers out of the box. No primary access to strength skills will also hurt their development towards being killer players. Important Blitz actions will often be left to the Jaguar Warriors with their higher strength and primary access to skills such as Mighty Blow. Piranha Warriors are the fastest players on the team however so they are likely to be earning their SPP from scoring touchdowns rather than causing casualties.

Python Warrior Throwers aren’t the best dedicated passers in the game having only PA3+ but they start with a great selection of skills and will be fantastic at quick passes once they have levelled up and taken the Accurate skill. Most teams who can take two throwers would generally be advised to take just one on their starting rosters however Python Warriors are the exception due to having On The Ball as a starting skill. Having two Python Warriors on the pitch when receiving a kick off gives a good chance that you’ll get one of them into the square where the ball will land giving you a 4+ catch roll before your first turn has even started.

Any lineman that starts off with useful skills is great and the Eagle Warrior Linewomen start off with the vital Dodge skill. Give most of your Eagle Warriors the Block skill as soon as they level up and you’ll have a formidable team. They will still die in droves when you face teams with lots of Tackle and Mighty Blow but you’ll be getting skilled journeywomen if you do ever find yourself short of players and the cash to replace them so a deep bench isn’t too important to start off with.

It is also important to start off with a decent number of Rerolls due to the lack of Sure Hands and Block on a rookie Amazon team.

All the positionals and 3 rerolls fits nearly into the 1000K starting budget leaving 10K leftover which you can spend on Dedicated Fans.

An alternative “All Positionals” roster sacrificing a reroll in favour of an additional Linewoman.

If you want a bench and plenty of rerolls then probably the best player to cut in order to afford 12 players is one of the Blitzers. Replacing a Blitzer with two Linewomen brings the total cost in at exactly 1000K.

I’d strongly recommend two Throwers for the insane coverage of the pitch that two On The Ball players provides when receiving kick offs but some coaches might still prefer to go with just a single Thrower. Dropping a reroll as well as a Thrower frees up enough cash to buy 8 Linewomen.

Variations on this roster would be to drop down to 12 players swapping the 8th Linewoman for either an Apothecary or for 5 extra Dedicated Fans to allow you to rapidly save up for more rerolls.
